Lead generation is the primary mission of most marketing leaders and staff. Traditionally, leads were the result of direct marketing, mass advertising, and other interruption based activities. While there's still room for pushing messages to audiences to elicit a response, the shift towards online media and mobile audiences creates opportunities for more channels and broader campaigns. For example, lead generation becomes more predictable and effective when extended with complementary thought leadership and demand generation programs. Relying on advertising or direct marketing without integration with other marketing activities is rarely ideal for lead generation.
